OUR VALUES

OUR
VALUES

We believe that every child arriving in a new country and culture has the right to play and to remain themselves. We hold that social integration does not require giving up one's identity. On the contrary, it should happen through the fullest possible expression of a child's personal capacities.

This is the foundation of everything Liberi Ludi does. Migration brings a child into a new language, a new school, new peers, but it must not require them to give up who they already are. A child's cultural memory, the family language they grew up with, and the things they have already achieved are not obstacles to integration. They are the ground from which a child begins to find their footing in a new environment.

We work from the conviction that children are already competent authors of their own lives. Our task is not to teach them how to "fit in", but to create the conditions in which a child can feel an equal alongside others. We do this through art, because art is a language every child already speaks before any school has taught them anything.

We hold that culture is something children participate in, not something done to them. That play is a serious form of cultural work for a child. That a finished work of art, however small, makes a child an author and gives them the chance to be heard. And that a new home, a new culture and a new community become real for a child only when their own voice is heard within them, clearly and as their own.
